W&L Prom 2017 Part 2

Washington-Lee (W&L) High School’s prom night was super eventful and exciting, and I’m so happy I could take part in so much of it. Not only did I get to take pictures of one of the prom groups attending the night, but I was hired to photograph the actual dance! This is Part 2 – The Prom.

Not too long ago, I was contracted to shoot the actual dance. After coming from the monuments, I went to the Rosslyn Marriott where the dance was being held, and I was immediately prom-jealous. Last year at my own prom, we were in a windowless room with minimal snacks and basic decorations. This prom was a penthouse ballroom with floor-to-ceiling windows, deliciously catered food, and exciting decorations. Although it was a little awkward when I was taking pictures for the first half hour (there were only a few people there who stared at me the whole time and stopped dancing too hard when I came too near), I ended up having a great night. It was an exciting event to shoot, and I enjoyed seeing a few people I knew. It also wasn’t too bad watching the sunset over DC and the Potomac River. Here are a few of my favorite snapshots from the night! (Also, most of my photos were in color, my favorites just almost all happened to be in black & white!)

The only way to get to the penthouse was through the elevators, where W&L teachers waited to shout “Welcome to prom!” to all the students when they emerged. They did this all night!
